Call With Donald Trump. President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed holding a bilateral phone call with US President Donald Trump regarding bilateral trade negotiations, reporting positive progress toward an agreement. She stated that the USMCA remains fully legally binding as enacted by the senates of all three nations, despite Canada seeking associate member status with the European Union.
Guanajuato Homicide Reduction Metrics. Marcela Figueroa, Executive Secretary, Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), reported a 75% decrease in average daily intentional homicides in Guanajuato as of Aug. 31, 2026. Figueroa noted that daily homicides peaked at 12.7 in February 2025, triggering a reinforced security strategy that yielded sustained monthly declines.
Fuel Seizure in Guanajuato. Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch reported that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) is advancing investigations into the recent seizure of over 59 million L of illegal gasoline and diesel in Guanajuato. Harfuch stated that federal authorities will secure arrests in the case, noting that large-scale fuel seizures consistently lead to prosecution.
Claudia Tacoronte Feminicide. Harfuch confirmed that joint federal and state security forces arrested Francisco Javier "N" in Cuautla, Morelos, for the alleged feminicide of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte. President Sheinbaum expressed condolences to Tacoronte's family, reiterating a national policy of zero impunidad for violence against women and urging victims to report domestic and gender-based violence.
Meeting With Maru Campos. President Sheinbaum declined a private meeting with Governor of Chihuahua Maria Eugenia Campos during her upcoming visit to Ciudad Juarez, directing Minister of Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez to handle state-level dialogue. Sheinbaum noted past differences regarding allegations of CIA involvement in an operation, which prompted an FGR investigation, while maintaining standard governmental coordination through the Ministry of the Interior.
