Wayne County Public Health is warning residents about a possible measles exposure at a business in the Town of Lyons. Health officials say the potential exposure occurred at Pine Creek Feed and Seed between September 9 and September 11.

People who are not immune to measles and were exposed could be at risk of developing the illness. Anyone who may have been exposed and develops symptoms is advised to contact their healthcare provider.

Wayne County Public Health says people experiencing possible measles symptoms should call ahead before going to a doctor’s office, urgent care center, or emergency department to help prevent exposing others.

People are generally considered protected from measles if they were born before 1957, have received two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, previously had measles, or have laboratory testing confirming immunity.

Symptoms can include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash. Symptoms usually begin 10 to 12 days after exposure but can appear between seven and 21 days afterward.

A person with measles can spread the virus beginning four days before the rash appears through four days afterward.
